On Thursday we spent the whole day driving (9:15-8:00pm) and encountered two traffic jams. The first traffic jam was in Atlanta (we are now two for two on accidents in Atlanta) caused by an accident in the center lane. The second stop was a completely unnecessary reduction from three to one lane of traffic with no warning that caused a back-up for two miles. When we finally passed the spot where people were "working" we saw several guys standing around looking at the road. I would rather drive many miles out of my way than just sit still on the road! Aarrgh!
Yesterday we drove from Valdosta GA to Anna Maria. It was beautiful, sunny, and warm. This is a lively spot and the hotel is quaint and well-maintained. We unpacked, met our friends Gary and Nancy, had some wine, walked to the beach, and chose a spot for dinner.
The Rod and Reel Club, which sounds large, is tiny, on the water, and very popular. We waited over an hour for a table, but the excellent food and convivial atmosphere made the wait worthwhile.
We need to go grocery shopping so we can fix a meal here tonight. The island is very packed and busy for St. Patrick's Day. Maybe we'll get some pictures of the parade tomorrow.
